While pregnant with my baby girl, I had a blast painting her room with a tree mural (Please see a video of this painting in About Vera Rush Murals). It was immensely satisfying to have such a spacious area to paint on and create something special. The positive reaction of our friends and family was a major factor for my next big life decision.
As I came to the end of my maternity leave, I had to choose whether to go back to my previous line of work or pursue my dream of painting. As you can see, my passion for painting won and it's a win-win situation; I get to be a mum to my wonderful little girl and have a job that makes people happy!
Hi, my name is Vera.
Originally, I come from the Czech Republic. I moved to the UK in 2016 for work but have since then settled and started a family in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
I was a successful IT project manager based in London with a career that took me around Europe and the world on business trips. I have an analytical mind with a keen sense of organization and detail.
However, there is another side to me which is quite artistic. I used to draw and doodle since I was little. As i grew older, I eventually attended an art course as a hobby outside work. This increased my passion for painting considerably as I learned the techniques for painting with acrylic paints on canvases.
I experimented by decorating my lounge wall with canvas paintings of my own creation. When my friends and family saw what I had done they were literally queuing up to ask me to do something for their home. So, over time I created and gifted many of my canvases as wedding, birthday, and Christmas presents.
How it all started
When I was growing up, I had white walls in my room but I always dreamed of some colour and pictures to decorate it. Therefore, while expecting my little baby girl, I really wanted to make her room a little bit more special.
The video below captures the process of painting a cherry blossom tree mural in her nursery room.
It transformed her room into a magical place to sleep and play, and when I walk into her room, it still reminds me of the sweet anticipation of her arrival into this world.
Many friends and family who visited us were intrigued to see the nursery decoration. One friend in particular was so impressed that she asked me if I would do something similar for her. We discussed it further at her house and eventually she commissioned me to paint a family tree in their dining room and Peter Rabbit characters in her baby son's bedroom. You can see photos of the finished paintings below:-
With my very first customer over the moon with the results, I decided to establish Vera Rush Murals as a business.
What it's all about
As you might have guessed, the main focus of Vera Rush Murals is painting murals in people's homes. You can have a custom designed painting almost anywhere in your house - nursery or children's rooms, bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms or hallways; the possibilities are endless.
The process starts with a conversation about the location of the mural, the wall dimensions and details of furniture that's situated up against the wall. Ideally, I would visit your home but a photo is sufficient. We discuss your ideas for the mural and I then draw a draft design that we work on together until it's just perfect for you. For examples of finished murals, please see the Gallery.
Based on the design, I will give you an estimated quote for your mural. The design and quote is completely free and there is no obligation to proceed. If you like what you see and would like to go ahead, I will send you a specification sheet detailing the agreed design, costs and start date. A deposit is required to secure the order.
Once the painting is finished, you will be provided with an invoice with the total amount due. The final cost is dependent on the actual duration of the work and any changes made to the agreed design.
Based in Southend-on-Sea, I cover primarily the areas of Essex and London. When extensive travel is required and where it makes more sense to find accommodation for a few nights, these costs will need to be counted in. This will all be discussed during the initial conversation and will be added to the estimated quote before moving forward.
